About John Fraser Memorial Park

This park pays tribute to John Fraser (1945-1968), a young army officer who was a well-known local rugby union player. Fraser heroically sacrificed himself to save others in his platoon while clearing mines in Vietnam :

"When he heard the mine arming, Fraser deliberately used his body in an effort to smother the effects of the blast and minimize injuries to those members of his platoon who were close by."

Fraser rests at Allambe Garden of Memories cemetery at Nerang.

This simple park offers open space and some shade under a splendid tree.  The park is situated on the shore of a narrow stretch of Nerang River, with suburban houses adorning the riverbank on the far side.

If you are in the mood for a walk or bike ride, there is a path that runs from the carpark at John Fraser Memorial Park down along Remembrance Drive (Gold Coast Highway) towards Broadbeach.

Dogs are permitted on a leash.
